Art Gallery Kimberley is excited to announce the solo exhibit of Calgary-based artist Michele Doucette. Her collection, “Soulful Wonders of the Wild,” will be on display from July 22 through August 4, 2024. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, July 27 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM, featuring live music by local Jazz trio "the d'linquint."
Michele Doucette's "Soulful Wonders of the Wild Collection" invites viewers to experience the majestic mountains and the unlimited spirit of nature through her eyes. This collection, inspired by her personal growth and deep appreciation for the natural world, captures the emotional depth and spiritual connection between humanity and nature. Michele's artworks emphasise the beauty and wonder of nature's creations, inspiring curiosity and creativity.
"Since embarking on my artistic journey, I have yearned to create a collection that reflects the profound impact nature has had on my being," Michele explains. "Delving into deeper emotions and embracing a more conscious way of living, I recognized that this collection would serve as a testament to my own inner transformation - a demonstration of my insistent efforts and a source of immense pride."
The exhibit's title, "Soulful Wonders of the Wild," sums up the nature of Michele's vision. "Soulful" symbolises the spirit and connection in nature, drawing viewers closer to their own sense of purpose. "Wonders" highlights the beauty of the natural world, while "Wild" embraces the unpredictable nature of the animals and landscapes she portrays. Together, these elements invite viewers to reconnect with the untamed spirit within themselves and appreciate the wisdom that nature instils.
Michele's journey into the art world began as a passion discovered during a challenging time in her life. As a former athlete, personal trainer, and outdoor enthusiast, Michele found therapeutic benefits in painting following a complex health issue. Her natural affinity for painting, combined with her unique use of texture, brings her images to life on canvas. Michele's artworks have been recognized with awards in international art competitions, and she has had success in collaborative shows.
Michele's artworks show a balance between artistic impression and reality, and capture the essence of memorable hikes and personal relationships. Her innovative use of texture, colour, and layered brush strokes creates a tactile depth and dimension that entices viewers to interact with her work on a personal level.
In addition to the passion for her craft, Michele is an active supporter of her local community, donating artworks to wildlife conservation efforts and organisations supporting child health and education.
The opening reception for "Soulful Wonders of the Wild" will take place on Saturday, July 27 between 4 and 6 pm.
