Ray Swirsky
Ray Swirsky is a contemporary western oil painter based in Calgary, Alberta. Having grown up in the small town of Kimberley, BC, Ray has never lost his connection with nature and this can be seen within the many stunning landscapes and large animal paintings he creates.
As an active plein-air painter, Ray is always seeking to find and copy the colours that only exist in nature. When in the studio, Ray works the canvas pushing strong colours with high contrast coupled with a masterful use of light which makes these dynamic works come alive.
Ray is a member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (AFCA), the Alberta Society of Artists (ASA), Artists for Conservation, Oil Painters of America, a founding member of the newly formed First Nations Arts Alliance and a member of the Metis Nation of Alberta.
Ray has been a regular exhibitor at the Calgary Exhibition and Stampede Artist’s Studio (since 2019), Spruce Meadows Masters (since 2021), and The Great Western Art Show in Montana (since 2023).
Ray’s work is found in numerous private and corporate collections throughout Canada, USA, UK, Australia, New Zealand, Germany and South Africa.
