"Hello, my name is Athena Knibbs, a self taught bag maker, surface pattern designer and artist. I have always loved sewing and have been obsessed with fabric and exploring patterns and forms in artwork that translate well into surface pattern design. My journey began with wanting to bring a custom flare to my handmade totes and accessories. In a very labor intensive, painstakingly manner, I carved lino blocks and hand printed fabric to then be sewn into bags. Some panels I even hand dyed and treated with natural beeswax, making durable items that withstand moisture and meant to last years."

"As my concept of surface pattern design broadened, my interests expanded to illustration techniques, both in mixed media and digitally. By combining whimsical drawing, traditional block printing and basic concepts of repeat patterns, I now create fabric to use in my bag making process. There is nothing more rewarding to my eye and pattern seeking brain to pull apart elements of my art and explore the many ways to combine assets and explore color!
